More Space in Bucktown: Meet Carrie

What were you looking for in a new home?

I was looking for a bit more living space and definitely more outdoor space, as well as a quieter block. Having space to entertain is important to me in addition to more inside hang out spots, too.

It was also important to me to be in a really walkable area (I apparently feel the need to be within a 5 min walk of wine, coffee and yoga at all times). I ended up finding just what I was looking for in the Bucktown neighborhood.

Since you were both selling and buying, what prep did you do to get your current place ready for listing?

I de-cluttered and did some paint touchups, but nothing major.  Meg was incredible in coming in with great taste and crisp advice on what to do to optimize the sales price.  Her ability to stage and design an apartment for photos definitely helps command top dollar.  The photos were so beautiful, I almost fell back in love with my old place!

Did you end up buying or selling first?

I bought first because Meg had suggested my current block as a perfect place for me earlier in the summer.  When one of the townhomes suddenly opened up, we moved quickly to purchase before it hit the market, knowing it would sell quickly and/or spark a bidding war.

Have you made any changes to your new place?

Painted everything (walls, trim, doors, kitchen and master bath cabinets), added crown molding, added new runners to the stairways (went a little unapologetically crazy with navy leopard print), swapped out ceiling fans, chandelier and light fixtures, new tile around the fireplace, new appliances.  Meg helped me find both the ideas and the people to do the work - I run all my design ideas by her first!

How would you describe your style?

Relatively classic but with a twist of unexpectedness. My mom always used the word "whimsical" when describing her taste, which I guess I aspire to!

What is your favorite neighborhood spot?

The 606 has been a godsend—I walk or jog on it more days than not and grab coffee at Ipsento or Goddess and Grocer after.  Also love Zen Yoga Garage, and Red and White Wines.

Your favorite thing about your new home?

More space! I love hosting and now I can fit my entire family around the dining room table instead of making some of them eat off plates on their knees on the couch!

Meg is so smart, hardworking and just knows Chicago inside and out. She knew me and my taste so well that she told me she could envision me in the townhome I ended up buying, before I could even find it on a map (I had never heard of Wilmot Ave. until Meg made me walk by it!).
