First Time Buyer: Megan
Let’s take a look into buying a home
There’s nothing like the feeling of unlocking the door to your very first home, and for Megan Morton, that moment was the start of something big. As a first-time buyer, Megan navigated the ups, downs, and “wait, what does that mean?” moments of real estate with equal parts courage and curiosity.
We sat down with her to talk about what surprised her, what she learned, and what she’d tell anyone thinking about buying their first place. Spoiler: it’s not just about square footage, it’s about finding a space that finally feels like you.
How did you know this home was “the one”?
It had everything I wanted on my list and it was in the exact building I was hoping for! 2 bed, 2 bath timber loft, big windows, lots of natural light, outdoor space, in unit washer/dryer. It also had a fireplace and an included parking spot which were only nice to haves. It felt good immediately and I went with my gut!
What do you love most about your home?
I love how much character it has- I wanted a space that felt like it had personality and wasn't just a cookie cutter condo.
Why did you decide it was time to stop renting and buy your first place?
For a long time I wanted to wait until I had a partner to buy property but I finally realized there was no reason not to do it on my own. I've known for a long time that Chicago is my long term home and it felt like time to make it official!
Did your criteria for your home change as your search progressed?
Not in the slightest- I knew exactly what I wanted and Meg and the team were able to find exactly what I asked for so I didn't need to change my criteria at all.
What drew you to this location?
I have lived in the Lincoln Square/North Center/Ravenswood neighborhood for three years and I love it! I was first drawn to the neighborhood because I have a lot of friends who live in the area, and I love it because it feels like a small town within the city. There are so many local restaurants, shops and parks and everyone is really invested in the neighborhood.
What was the best part about working with Meg +The Heyday Homes Team?
Meg was so wonderful to work with- she made the process so smooth and easy and even fun! Buying a home for the first time is so scary and intimidating and Meg and the team held my hand through every step of the process. Meg really respected what I wanted and never tried to convince me to change my mind on anything. I was so impressed with her going above and beyond to find me a condo in the exact building I wanted even with nothing listed!
My advice would be to work with realtors who understand what it is like to be a first time home buyer and will help walk you through the process (like Heyday Homes!)
